Most people when looking to rent a car or truck will call around and get the base rates per day for the vehicle that they want to rent. They will compare these rates to each other and then they will make a decision based on that alone. Comparing however, only the base rates could be leaving you to pay more money in the long run for your car rental. So the next time you are comparing rates on vehicles from different car rental companies be sure to ask the following questions. They will better help you assess how much that car hire will really be costing you in the end.

HOW MUCH ARE THE EXTRA FEES AND TAXES PER DAY?
Each area will have their own additional fees and taxes to add on, and these can vary from location to location, so be sure that you get the daily rate with these figures factored in.

HOW MUCH MILEAGE IS INCLUDED?
Most car hire companies won’t tell you this, but it is a question that could really save you a lot of money. Although it's ideal to have a vehicle rental with all mileage included so you do not have to worry how much you drive, most companies will only offer you a certain number of miles per trip or per day. Important things to realize with this is how much you are going to pay for each additional mile over their allotted amount and also, if they quote you how many miles that long distance trip will be, they will in all probability only be allotting you mileage to and from the destination itself and will not be including any additional mileage for around town driving. When at all possible pay a slightly higher rate for unlimited mileage and it can save you big in the long run.

WHAT IF I PICK IT UP ON A DIFFERENT DAY OR KEEP IT A DAY OR TWO LONGER?
Many times it's helpful to change around your travel dates a little to receive a better rate. Sometimes if you ask an agent they can help you swing something a little less expensive. When looking on the web, switch the dates a little and see what you come up with.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIALS?
It sounds silly that they would not tell you if they did, but some companies do not allow their staff to offer specials to shoppers unless they ask, so take the time to ask and you may perhaps just find a deal that you did not even know existed.
