Don’t Set Goals Anymore, They Don’t Work!

That's right I don't set goals anymore and you shouldn't either.

I have studied business mentor, self made billionaire, Bill Bartmann, who teaches that goals are too easily missed. Bartmann teaches to make promises instead of goals. When most of us make a promise, we keep it. We promise all sorts of things and won't let the person we promise down. A promise is a commitment, it's our word and from childhood we were taught, we must keep our promises.

Every year brings on new goals, new resolutions, they may not actually be new but we reset for another year and by January 15th most have already broken the resolution and are off track on the goals. We use the calendar to start over again and to give us a fresh start. Actually we should use the calendar to mark our progress. Progress is really what we need to see to be happier. Progress is the secret to happiness!

Make a promise to grow your business, to write a book, to get fit or just to read 1 book a month. Promise yourself, your spouse or someone that will help you stick to keeping your word. You will be much more likely to keep promises than goals or resolutions. Goals and resolutions take will power to achieve and you have to push yourself to complete them. We need something to pull us, to draw us closer everyday, we're making progress.

To change your life you have to raise your standards. You have to raise the bar and not accept less. You must take control over the process.

1st You need a vision for what you want to create. A compelling vision will pull you through to completion, compelling enough to drive you through the challenges along the way.

2nd You will need strong reasons, a why. Once you can determine your reasons for your visions the answers will be attracted to you. When you have a strong reason the how will follow. Don't worry about the how, when you focus everyday and emotionally compelled to your promise the answers, the people, the solutions are now more obvious in the world around you. Your brain notices things that it never did before

3rd Review your promise everyday, feel it, become obsessed with attaining the visions. Experience the outcome in your mind. Write down the new habits or rituals you will need to fulfill your promise.

4th Raise your standards. Lasting change is different than a goal, it comes as a result of creating new habits. You don't always reach your goals but you always get your standards. Some won't go out of the door without make-up or dressed to a T, a standard. Some need a clean car, and some won't drive anything less than a BMW. Raise your standards and accept nothing less.

Don't let this year be like the last or the year before. Focus on your compelling vision and raise your standards. Take control over the process, do something today to change your life. Start or grow your business, pay off the credit cards, learn something new help others achieve more, become more than you are. It doesn't have to be hard, make a promise to do something everyday that moves you towards your vision for your life.
