Don't Think You Can Make A Residential Wind Turbine? Neither Did I!

If you're like me, your electricity bill seems to take up more and more of your paycheck. This is one of the hardest expenses to try to control, so what can you do? I was determined to figure something out to help save some extra money. After hearing about alternative energy, I decided I would look into a residential wind turbine. Based on what I learned about this, I ended up building one myself. If you don't think this is possible, I'm here to tell you that it is.

When I first started looking into adding a residential wind turbine, I thought having one professionally installed made the most sense. After all, I could just pay someone to do it for me. That was a great idea until I called around and got a few quotes. Having a residential wind turbine professionally installed ran into thousands of dollars. Since this project was about saving money, this completely defeated the purpose. It would take 5-10 years for a professional installation to pay off again. I don't know about you, but I need help now - not in 5 or more years.

After everything I learned, I was still convinced a wind turbine would help me out. The question was getting around the intial cost. That's when I found a way to build a residential wind turbine yourself. Don't believe it? I didn't either. It sounded too good to be true but my curiosity got the best of me. I found a good do it yourself manual and decided I would give this a try. At the very worst, I would have spent a bit of money and wasted some time. At the very best, I would be on my way to having my own wind generator.

In the end, it took me a little longer than the weekend but I was able to build my own residential wind turbine. I learned some creative ways to find some of the parts and everything else was at my hardware store.

So far I have only one, but now that I know how to build a residential wind turbine I'll be adding more. In addition, the guide I used shows how to build solar panels. I'm planning to add a few of those as well so I have a solar roof. I won't be able to completely run my house on wind power, but I will be able to run most of my lights and electronics when I'm done. Since electronics can use electricity even when they are turned off, this will still definitely make a difference. In the end, the entire project was worthwhile. And if you don't think you can build a solar panel, I dare you to try! I did it!
