Dos And Don’ts Of Home Accessories
Don’t Paint Over Wallpaper Unless you’ve purchased wallpaper that’s meant to be painted, don’t paint over existing wallpaper in your home. It’s easy to remove wallpaper so there’s no excuse not to. Plus, removing wallpaper ensures that your wall decor won’t become damaged due to improper painting. No one wants their wall art permanently stuck to a coat of paint on the wall. Yikes! Do Update Your Paint Regularly Even if you refresh the room with the same color, do update your paint on a regular basis. Fresh paint makes a room feel new, and most importantly: clean. Don’t Take Storage For Granted Open shelves are a beautiful thing, but they should be used for displaying rather than leaving them to collect dust. Use them to display various home accessories such as books or candles. If you’re stumped on what to use, remember, almost anything that can be used as table decor can also be displayed on bookshelves. Do Reupholster Furnitures Antique furnitures can be extremely desirable due to its high quality construction. However, that doesn’t mean you have to live with the dated upholstery they came with. Get your antique furnitures reupholstered and cleaned up. If reupholstering is not an option for whatever reason, consider investing in a few slip covers to update the look. Don’t Underutilize Wall Space If you’ve got a massive wall, you better have a massive piece of wall art to match! Dinky, singular displays look out-of-place and can date a room’s appearance. If you can’t find a large piece of art to fit the space, then combine several small pieces of wall art and wall decor to create a large collage of items, thus filling the space appropriately. Do Create a Color Palette A color palette should be ever-present in all of your home decor and home accessories. It doesn’t mean you have to choose items in all the same hue, but have a color palette in place so that you can mix and match items. For example, linen upholstered furnitures, matte finish black or white vases, a nice gray zebra printed rug and a bold hue of turquoise or red on the walls and voila, you’ve got a simple but fun color palette. Plus, once you know your colors, you may find it easier to find the right home accessories to accent the room. Don’t Be Afraid of Color Having a color palette is one thing, but being afraid of colors is silly. Don’t be afraid of incorporating a little color into your room. Start small, with little home accessories such as candles or throw pillows, to incorporate color into your space. Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com
