Droid Standard Batteries Are Really Sub-standard

Does your new Droid Smartphone battery drain too quickly? For the most part, the standard batteries that come with the new Droid Smartphones aren’t up to the tasks demanded by the many apps and widgets running on the phone. In addition, the 4G network drains batteries even more. To top off all of that, your cell phone provider may be adding to your battery woes. According to an article published by Dustin Earley, Android and Me, “Enough people with different devices have complained to T-Mobile for Magenta to start publicly trouble-shooting the problem. Over on the T-Mobile support forums, a thread has gone live asking users a few simple questions to try and help sort the situation out.” No wonder your standard battery is giving up too soon!

Everyone agrees that the 4G network drains your battery faster than the 3G network. Forums are reporting 4G drains the battery 20% faster than the 3G. The only thing you can do to combat this is to turn off the 4G unless you are streaming video or data. You can buy an extended battery, but that means your case won’t fit as the extended battery is thicker than the standard battery. There is a good solution to this dilemma. Buy a spare battery and a Sync and Charge Cradle. For example, the HTC EVO 4G Sync and Charge Cradle not only allows you to sync your EVO 4G, but will charge it will you’re streaming video. It has a spare battery charger built into it so you can be charging the spare battery as well. No need to get the bulkier extended battery that your case won’t fit. Sure you have to carry around the spare battery, but that’s a small inconvenience.

Meanwhile, you can help your battery to keep from draining quite as quickly. PubArticles.com gave us a few tips on increasing the battery life on the Droid Smartphones.

Tip 1: Keep the phone attached to the charger during the initial sync.

Tip 2: Press the power key to invoke a blank screen quickly when setting the Motorola Droid 3 down after use.

Tip 3: Lower the display brightness or use the Auto Brightness setting.

Tip 4: Toggle Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS on or off as needed and ensure applications are closed when not in use.

Tip 5: Clear all notifications from the notification bar as much as possible.

I chose to buy an extended battery. I love my Droid X, but of course the standard battery that came with it was too feeble for my needs. I bought a 2600mAh Droid X extended battery, which gives me nearly double the battery life as the standard Droid X battery. I miss having a nice case for the phone, but am on the lookout for one. I figure that with so many people buying Smartphone extended batteries, there should soon be a plethora of extended cases on the market. I wait and watch!
