Drysdale And Magalhaes Get Big Mma Wins
Robert Drysdale is one of the most skilled grapplers here in the United States. Drysdale is a long time BJJ trainer at Xtreme Couture and now conducts his own gym in Las Vegas. Drysdale is a BJJ black belt with 90+ Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament titles. He is a 6 time World Jiu-Jitsu Champion and the 2007 ADCC Absolute Champion. Drysdale has recently decided MMA. Drysdale's first opponent was Bastien Huveneers at the Armageddon Fighting Championships. He made quick work of Huveneers submitting him with an arm triangle choke just 1:12 into the first round. Drysdale is carrying on with his MMA career and had a second fight under the AFC banner. In his second fight, Drysdale fought 5-1 Canadian Clay Davidson. Davidson has been labeled the 9th best light-heavyweight in Canada. Well, when number nine in Canada faces maybe number one in the world, I think their might be a mismatch. Davidson was submitted at 2:54 of Round 1 due to a Drysdale armbar. Props to Davidson, who fended off the submission to the best of his ability though. I think the world understands that fighting this man's submissions may not end so well. No need to get down about this loss. Drysdale seems to be taking his career carefully and letting his game develop; probably a plan more guys should try. There is no word on Drysdale's next fight yet but with any luck it comes very soon. The other jiu jitsu star who had a recent contest was Vinny Magalhaes. Magalhaes' jiu jitsu seems to be getting much better as he most recently won bronze medals at the 2009 ADCC Submission Championships in the -99kg and absolute divisions. Magalhaes has had a little longer history in MMA and even appeared on TUF 8 where he received most of his notoriety. Magalhaes fought his way to the TUF finale where he met Ryan Bader. His good fortune ended with one overhand right from Bader but it didn't halt his MMA career. Magalhaes fought Alihan Magomedov on M-1's Challenge 22 card in Russia. Magalhaes had no issues handling his opponent on the mat. In the first round, Magomedov did well to steer clear of the guard of Magalhaes but still had to protect against a gogoplata and a couple of armbar tries. In the next round, it was more steering clear of the submissions for Magomedov but this time he couldn't safeguard all of the submissions flying at him. Magalhaes submitted Alihan at 1:10 of Round 2 with a very slick triangle / armbar. I have never seen this passage done so successfully in MMA and I imagined he was going to squander position but I guess that's why he's an ADCC bronze medalist and I am stuck behind a computer writing articles about him. Blast you Vinny. I guess you beat me again. Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com Interested in getting started with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
