Dublin – The Rip Off City
The Guinness factory was somewhere that I was looking forward to visit. I wanted to learn about the history of Guinness, about the founders, about Guinness and the war years etc. We arrived at the factory to see that many many other people had had the same idea. We then had to wait around forty minutes to buy our tickets (14 euros each). We then proceeded to look around and have to say that I was more than disappointed. Some would say that at least they give you a free pint at the end of the visit; to be truthful I can not stand the drink and was only able to drink a few sips. The taxi from the airport was 23 euros, the taxi back 35! I could have punched the driver, I was however glad to be going home. Once back in my lovely city of Birmingham I felt as if I had been mugged, us Brummies would not treat the visitors in the same greedy way. Our hotel was four star; despite this it did not have any coffee making facilities. This was purely because they wanted you to buy your coffee from their rather expensive coffee shop on the ground floor. Now for the plus points, the tour buses were totally superb and a must, 15 euros a day is a real bargain. The prison is another must; the tour guide was absolutely brilliant. The Viking centre was also well worth a visit. I did enjoy my weekend break; after all it is what you make of it. I would however recommend many other placed ahead of Dublin , in fact from all of the places that I have visited Dublin would be at the bottom. Sorry Dublin but you are not as grand or as big as you think you are.
