Just like nurses, medical assistants can get pertinent details from patients like conducting routine physical assessment. Medical assistants are trained to take the height, weight and vital signs of the patients. Since some offices have limited staff, there are medical assistants who are required to do other duties like noting patients' histories, lab tests and chartings. In addition, medical assistants can do simple treatments like giving injections, applying bandages and taking x-rays. They can perform these measures under direct custody of the health care provider or the doctor.

Specialized Areas
Like health doctors and nurses, medical assistants can choose an area they wish to work like a pediatrics clinic. Since specializing needs skills and awareness of a specific work area, medical assistants are well trained before they can work in these types of clinical set-ups. They will receive trainings on assessment, patient care, examination, palliative and treatment and follow up measures.

Advanced Roles and Tasks
For the medical assistants who show high level of professionalism they can be promoted to other positions. Those who show leadership skills and qualities can be promoted as managers or supervisors.

Medical assistants are fast growing careers. Trainings and certification are not required then again they are considered by hospitals and clinical areas. On the other hand, the qualification of an applicant not only depends on their education background but also communication and interpersonal skills.
