E-coaching – A Breakthrough In Personal Development?

Up until relatively recently life coaching was something restricted to the senior executives of the boardroom. Now they are most definitely for everyone. More and more people are beginning to realise the full potential of life coaching. Yes of course it can help you with leadership, with promotional prospects and with career development. However, it can also help you with relationships, it can help reduce stress and anxiety in your life, it can help you have fun and find peace in your life.

With the power of life coaching beginning to affect people from all walks of life and for varying reasons, life coaches are starting to look at alternative ways to deliver their service. The busy mother and father don’t have much time spare to go and visit a life coach for an hour. Many might not be able to afford the price either!

However, telephone coaching has provided a useful, cheaper, more convenient alternative for the past couple of years and more recently e-coaching is really beginning to take off.

E-coaching is great! It’s great for the client and great for the coaches too. For the coaches it means they can spread their good work much further (and earn more money!). For the clients it offers a whole range of benefits.
Firstly, the client does not have to travel anywhere. He or she can get coached from the comfort of their own home. Furthermore they do not have to make particular appointments, they can attend to their coaching emails when they are free to do so.

Secondly, the client can read and re-read the emails and it therefore makes the process in many ways much more reflective. When you get coached by telephone or in person the whole process is very much more dynamic. For many this is an advantage, but for some who like to reflect on what is said to them, telephone or face to face coaching doesn’t give much of an opportunity to go over what has been said. With emails they can be read and re-read as many times as you wish.

Thirdly, they are cheaper for the client. This makes e-coaching accessible to all at a fraction of the price of face to face coaching, which can cost many hundreds.

A word of warning though, e-coaching is not for everyone. Rapport, normally an essential part of coaching, is a little more difficult to build by email. It therefore doesn’t suit everyone, but the more routes available to life coaching, the more people will be able to benefit.

One thing is for sure, life coaching will continue to play an important part in many people’s lives. E-coaching makes it that much more accessible.
