Easy Hardware Upgrades For Your Computer

Does installing new hardware in your computer make you cringe in trepidation? Don't worry; it's much easier to do than you might think. Hardware upgrades are one of the best ways to increase your computer's power and potential without having to shell out cash for a new system. Let's take a look at some of the top ways to do this.

1. Increase RAM: RAM, or Random Access Memory, plays a large role in your computer's speed, even more so than the speed of your processor. Most computers come from the manufacturer with the minimum amount of RAM necessary for the computer to operate. Installing more RAM is a simple, easy way to boost computer performance on a budget. Make sure you know what type of RAM you need before buying; there are several different kinds on the market. You can determine what kind you have by opening the case and removing the existing stick. The label on the back of the RAM stick will tell you all you need to know.

2. Increase Hard Drive Capacity: Over time, your hard drive will fill up; there's no way around it. Simple OS updates, alone, can constitute a major space hog. Installing a new hard drive will increase your storage capacity. There are several options available to you. Internal hard drives are the fastest, though if you don't enjoy mucking around inside your computer you can use an external hard drive. Even flash drives can be a help, allowing you to offload information from your hard drive and free up valuable space.

3. Sound/Video Upgrades: Getting more out of the audio/visual performance of your computer can be done very simply. Adding a state of the art sound or video card is as simple as removing the case, removing the old video or sound card and popping the new one in. However, most of the time, you'll need to install the drivers that come with the new equipment prior to installation.
