OK – it’s a catchy title, but living on raw food has enormous benefits.

My thinking about raw food coincided with my thinking about the age old problems of aging. I had lunch recently with a friend, and we compared the appearance status of some of our mutual friends who do not follow an alkaline diet, as we both do.

We agreed they all still looked wonderful at this stage in their lives, and yet one battles arthritis, one has type 2 diabetes, and another has ongoing issues with psoriasis. Each of these issues is an indication that their pH balance is in need of correction. At this stage they may look well, but undoubtedly the cracks will surely appear.

We had a good laugh, as we reflected on how much and how often we examine our contemporaries when we meet, checking to see how we stack up in terms of wrinkles, love handles, aging teeth, or grey hairs.

Shocked? Come on! Be honest. We all do it. And we find a certain pleasure in noting a friend’s weight gain or advancing wrinkles. Yes, there are few saints amongst those of us who chase eternal youth! Forgive us Lord!

Aging is part of the human condition

But all jokes aside, and whether we like it or not, whether we laugh about it or not, there is no getting away from the fact that we all age. With that comes the inevitable sagging, age spots, and loss of muscle that we all so fear. Or does it? Does it have to be that way, or could it be that we could accept that process with a new grace, an awareness that others might envy?

Undoubtedly pollution and stress make their contribution to aging. That is absolutely true, but compounding that can be the type of food that we elect to eat. This either contributes to aging, or serves to delay the onset.

You see, the signs of aging are a good indication of toxicity at a cellular level. Our bodies were programmed for cellular renewal, but the renewal is largely dependent on being fed food that is bursting with life force.

Eating devitalized food slows down the function of the body, and brings with it, a wealth of issues that we all tend to put down to the process of aging – unsightly varicose veins, sagging skin, thinning hair, or skin problems. The reality is that each is a cry for help.

Our genes are amazingly complex and it is the harmonious cooperation of all cells in the body that prevents breakdowns.

Have you ever wondered how movie stars and people in the public eye all manage to keep their svelte shape, yes even shortly after having babies? You see they latched on to the secret of raw food when the rest of us were still napping.

I used to think that it was simply the case that they had the cold hard cash to unlock the secrets of aging, but the reality is that the cold hard cash is spent on having dieticians come up with beautifully prepared raw food for them to eat. And let’s face it, our eyes taste food long before our taste buds do!

But don’t be disheartened. Preparing gorgeous food is not so hard with all the appliances that most of us have to hand these days. But let’s look at the benefits of "going raw".

1. There is clear evidence that cooking food not only denatures it, destroying live enzymes and nutrition, but also changes much of the nutritious elements into free radicals that threaten our health and wellbeing.

2. Sticking to a mostly raw, essentially organic, diet will nourish and heal your system both internally and externally, and provide you with energy beyond your dreams.

3. Another aspect to eating raw is that it contains healthy bacteria and micro-organisms that will serve to promote good digestion and intestinal wellbeing, so boosting your immune system.

4. And a bonus to eating raw is that surge of energy that you will experience. Raw greens in particular are satisfying and sustaining. Afternoon flagging of energy will be a thing of the past.

5. You will be able to rise easily, with boundless energy, after a good night’s sleep. Moreover, you will undoubtedly find that you will sleep soundly and need to spend fewer hours in bed. How good would that be for productivity?

6. Your thinking will be sharper and more focused, and your mood will be brighter.

7. Your kitchen will be cleaner – no dirty, greasy pans to wash. Just imagine the joy of simply rinsing dishes clean, and not using chemicals to wash up.

8. Your impact on the earth will be far less than previously, as you begin to say NO to supermarket dead foods with their excessive packaging.

9. Eating wholesome raw food restores the integrity of your cells and helps the rest of your organs to function optimally, and eliminate toxins. It’s that elimination of toxins that will start the process of regeneration and beautifying in your body. Working from the inside out, your body will be totally transformed.

For most people, "Eating in the Raw" is done to enjoy good health. Not too many people actually believe in eternal youth! However, there are many who would rather live their whole lives feeling vibrant and healthy, right till the day they die. For my money, a raw diet is the only one that will provide those benefits.
