Effective Banner Ads

Banner ads can be used in many ways, shapes and forms. There are literally millions of different banner advertisements displayed every day on the internet. The most effective banner ads will perform significantly better than most banner ads. Creating an effective banner ad is not as hard as one might think. All it takes is an understanding of what needs to be done in order for a banner to be successful.

The typical banner is a short, wide, rectangular box that is displayed at the top of a webpage. This article will focus on banners of that size because most website owners and internet advertisers use that size banner for their banner ads because it has established itself as the standard banner size.

Banners have the difficult task of needing to attract a user’s attention in less than two seconds. After the initial few seconds of being displayed, the chances of a banner being noticed by the user decrease drastically.

Using color patterns are a good way to format the colors of a banner. The pattern of the background should be made to blend in with the specific webpage that the banner is on but a few small color patterns should be noticeably different to help attract a user’s attention without distracting and irritating them.

Flashing banners and other banners that are too distracting are associated with spam advertisements because spam advertisements do not care about distracting or bothering the viewer. That is why it is important to separate your banner from spam ads but still make it attractive and eye-appealing to a viewer.

Too much text should not be used on a banner. The text on a banner should be in the form of a phrase and not contain too many words. A catchy phrase is far more likely to be noticed and read by a user than a paragraph of context explaining why a user should click on the ad and browse the advertiser’s website.

The phrase should not say something like “click here” or another phrase that may be misleading or demanding to a user because those types of things are also associated with spam ads. If you are advertising for a legitimate website and online business, you want to avoid your ads from being classified as spam advertisements.

Images and rich media displayed in an appropriate manner is a great way to attract attention to an advertisement and entice a viewer to click on it. Targeting your banner ads towards people in your target market will help fill your website traffic with potential customers.
