Effective Dog Training Techniques For New Dog Owners

It is important for dogs to be trained in order for owners to easily control them at all times, especially when they get out of hand. One of the most common and effective dog training techniques used by trainers nowadays is the implementation of positive reinforcement. But the question is; what is positive reinforcement?

Positive reinforcement is defined as the provision of treats and/or positive remarks to a dog who has successfully performed a good or commendable behavior. This is basically one way of showing appreciation for the good things that were done by the person, or in this case, by the animal. It is very effective for the owner or the dog trainer to be patient since some dogs will take months to master all the commands given to them. Aside from this, it is also a must that harsh or physical punishment be avoided. This type of punishment will only cause the dog to be more aggressive and combative. The use of a firm and stern tone of voice is more advisable since this can show the dog who is in control of the situation.

The different dog training techniques will always aim to benefit not only the owner but also the dog. There are a lot of steps that must be followed in order to train the dog properly and appropriately. These steps may not be as easy as most people would think; however, they will guarantee a well-trained dog after just a short span of time. Below are some of the reliable techniques of training dogs.

The very first thing that must be done in dog training is to enroll the dog in a basic obedience class. This will allow the dog to learn simple but useful commands such as stay and sit. Once the dog is able to learn a command properly, it is important to follow it up instantly with positive praise such as saying the word "good." They can also be given a treat in order to positively reinforce the good behavior that was performed by the dog.

As time passes, lengthening the time of giving the reward can be done in order for the dog to prolong the behavior. Nevertheless, it is vital that every good behavior exhibited by the dog be rewarded even if it is just something small. Once these basic commands are mastered, the trainer can now proceed to more complex types of commands. It is necessary to train dogs several times throughout the day for at least 10 minutes. This must also be done in a very quiet area in order to lessen the dog's distractions.

These are just some of the proper dog training techniques that all dog owners can use for their pets. It is important to display patience while doing the training since this will help the dog adapt smoothly to the training procedures.
