Planning your diet and charting out a proper exercise routine are the two most fundamental ways by which you can get rid of the extra fat around the stomach. Once you have shed that fat, you need to continue with the diet and exercise to ensure that you stay in shape, for fat starts building around this region very fast. Planning your diet is a very important step towards any weight loss agenda. Eating less and staying hungry is no solution, rather it aggravates the problem. You have to eat right so that you stay healthy yet in great shape.

You should go for food that is high in fiber but has low calories and carbohydrates like lots of green vegetables, mainly broccoli, spinach, bell peppers, cabbage, lettuce, cauliflower and fruits such as blackberries, apples, kiwi and strawberries. Cottage cheese, egg whites, fish and poultry must also feature in your weight loss diet as they are low in calories and saturated fats but are excellent protein supplements. Try to cut down on mutton, lamb, beef or pork and fruits and vegetables with a high level of starch. Try to cut down on alcohol and soft drinks. Do not skip meals and eat small portions at regular intervals of 4 hours. Drink lots of water to flush out the toxins.

You must also make it a point to enter into a regular exercise routine to get a flat belly. Do not over exercise but make sure you give some time everyday for a few basic and advanced exercises. There are a few abdominal exercises that work wonders in toning down your belly.

Seek some professional help so that you are sure that you are doing it correctly, in a proper posture and with the correct breathing pattern. The exercise is usually divided into sets and you must make sure you are repeating the sets as per your body requirements. Rest when you are too tired or your muscles ache from the contractions. While exercise is a great way to stay in shape, it is necessary to understand your body and exercise accordingly.

It may take several weeks for the results to start showing. Have patience and be committed to your diet and exercise plans. Once you are back in shape, make sure you continue eating right and exercising regularly so that you can maintain your shape. It is not difficult once you get a routine. Being in good shape will make you feel fit, healthy and confident.
