Election Feltham & Heston Candidates - Who Will You Vote For?
Elizabeth Anstis (Green) Mark Bowen (Conservative) John Donnelly (BNP) Alan Keen(Labour) Jerry Shadbolt (UKIP) Munira Wilson (Liberal Democrat) We asked all of the candidates to submit a 200 word contribution. The replies follow to help you to decide who you will vote for. Elizabeth Anstis (Green) “Only the Green Party offers hope for a fairer and more sustainable society. As well as sound environmental policies we offer better health care and a fairer deal for those who can’t well protect themselves, such as small businesses and pensioners. I have run small businesses in curtains, soft furnishing and building so I understand business. I will support community banks, credit unions and mutuals to provide realistic loans to small businesses. I am passionate about education and health care. I oppose cuts and closures and support locally accessible services. I want to see free social care to the elderly. I want to abolish prescription charges, re-introduce free eye tests and ensure widely available NHS chiropody. I will fight to restore free dental care and provide everyone with an NHS dentist. I believe in fairer treatment for pensioners. All pensioners should receive a non-means tested pension of £170 per week. This manifesto commitment is fully costed. I will fight for free care and support for those living independently. The Green Party manifesto also shows how we could introduce free home insulation for all, with priority for pensioners and those living in fuel poverty. I am fiercely opposed to the Third Runway at Heathrow. The noise and pollution will blight lives locally. Emissions of Carbon Dioxide should be reduced to prevent runaway climate change, not increased. “ Mark Bowen (Conservative) This seat is a straight fight between Labour and Conservative. I stand at this election not only as the Conservative candidate in the Feltham and Heston constituency but the local one also. I have lived in this constituency since 1998 and been a Councillor for Feltham North since 2002. Since 2006, I have been the Deputy Leader of the London Borough of Hounslow. I am especially proud that we have kept Council Tax down and improved our environment in a major way. If elected, I will be the hardest working Member of Parliament that Feltham, Heston, Bedfont, Cranford, Hanworth & Hounslow West has ever had. I am standing on my record as a Councillor for Feltham North where you will not find residents in that ward accuse me of only being around at election time. My top two priorities are for the country to control immigration and reduce Labour’s massive budget deficit. Both are major Labour failures. At the 2005 General Election, I achieved one of the largest swings from Labour to Conservative in the country in this seat. If I achieve a slightly higher swing this time, I will win! You can count on Mark Bowen! John Donnelly (BNP) John Donnelly is a local Businessman, former College lecturer and family man who has lived in West London all his life. He joined the BNP in 2004 after being disillusioned with politics for years. John is a passionate believer in freedom, democracy and law & order and has a deep love of our country. If elected John would campaign to redress the wrongs perpetrated by the Westminster elites by: • Campaigning for 'Truth in Sentencing', so that a sentence of life would be life, rather than10 years being the value of a victims life • Campaigning to see British streets made safe for everybody irrespective of race, creed, colour or faith, to be able to walk around in complete safety without fear or threat. • Campaign to defend and promote British democracy & sovereignty which has been eroded in recent years by Brussels, taking power back from the EU for the the British people. • Campaign for a system of popular national referenda on key issues that could be brought by the public to Parliament to redress the balance from the elites to the people. • Campaign to stop the catastrophic policy of uncontrolled mass immigration which has placed an enormous burden on Britains infrastructure and taxpayers. Alan Keen(Labour) No response yet. Jerry Shadbolt (UKIP) What you the voter needs to take onboard is that Britain always was able to govern itself and it’s our weedy main parties that don’t think so. UKIP would restore real government to our own Parliament. If anyone thinks that is a superfluous aim then truly it is they we need to kick out of parliament. So understand that the answer to most of our problems, national and local, are to divorce ourselves from the arranged marriage with Europe. I have leafleted widely in Feltham &Heston. Most of the people I met are sick of Labour and the Tories. The answer is simple. Boot them out. I realise I am not tackling local issues here but look we (Britain) can cancel most of the credit crunch debt by refusing to pay feudal taxes to the EU. The money last reported at £120Bn a year could be spent here at home, some of it here in Feltham or Heston. We want our roads fixed, better public transport, our people, not European migrants helped back to work. I want to see a law passed that prevents companies from outsourcing jobs to foreign countries. Restore power focus our resources here at home. Munira Wilson (Liberal Democrat) The people of Feltham & Heston are crying out for change. They have been neglected for too long by a Labour MP caught up in the expenses scandal and a Tory council that hits the vulnerable in our community the hardest. If elected, I will be a dedicated MP, working full-time for local people. Unlike the current MP, I will hold weekly advice surgeries all over the constituency. I will speak to residents and service providers regularly, ensuring Feltham & Heston’s interests are represented properly, both locally and at Westminster. I will stand up for a better deal for residents: - Campaigning for more police on the beat to help residents feel safer – many people have told me that crime and anti-social behaviour is their top concern - Fighting to protect our local health services, including the A&E and maternity unit at West Middlesex Hospital - Restoring pride in our area – working with the council to prioritise cleaning up graffiti, flytipping and road repairs across Feltham & Heston. Residents have a simple choice - either a disgraced Labour MP and the same old tired politics or a Liberal Democrat MP, with a fresh and positive vision for our area.
