Matching Colors: A Science that is Well Developed to Help

Ever since we picked up our first box of crayons we have desired to match, mix, and create – It is no different when you have fabric, furniture, and room color choices. The desire to coordinate is known throughout any art or design school and is taught at a basic level using a color wheel. When you are looking at a color wheel, it looks almost like someone took a rainbow and connected the arch into a circle. Opposite colors on the wheel are those with absolute contrast and stability. This by no means is a full explanation of the science of color, but a mere push to get you thinking in the right direction for your dollhouse coordination.

Fabrics and Cloth

Once you understand that anything and everything can change, be created, or designed in your dollhouse it opens up tons of potential. The shear amount of detail can be both overwhelming and exiting. Fabrics and cloth is one awesome example as you can coordinate colors and have your favorites stand out. If you are looking for an example, or maybe a good starting point then I would recommend the bedroom. Just think of all the fabrics that you use in your own bedroom - Sheets, curtains, blankets, etc. Moving on to the dinning room there is the dinning table cloth and if you are really fancy you can have coordinating napkins. After the dining room you go to the bathroom and do some his and her towels, or even a floor mat. Now I hope that you can see the unending possibilities that await your linens, cloths, and fabric designs.

Making your Miniature House Better: Floor Trim

Everyone likes to tweak there dollhouses from time to time. There are some great things that you can add to your house, and I just simply came across one that helped out a lot. I simply created a floor board to use for the trim around the floor of the dollhouse. Floor Trim is not a new creation, but what I found is instead of buying it, to use a very thin balsa wood found in most craft stores. I painted them white, which went with all the walls in my dollhouse, and attached them to the floors throughout the house. I was most impressed to not see any more tiny cracks between the wall and the flooring due to the trim covering it up. The wallpaper walls were also trimmed and I was really happy to see that it prevented fraying due to covering the edges. This discovery truly was a small one, but I believe that it really added to my dollhouse.

Contrasting your Colors: Making things Pop

The definition of a contrast is two distinct or different items that draw attention to one another. Using contrast works well to move your eye to a certain location of the room, or in a predetermined pattern. If you are planning to use color as your primary medium for contrast then refer to a color wheel - the colors opposite from one another will bring the most contrast. Using contrast in a room, is like using salt with food, you use to much and you get overwhelmed quickly. In order to prevent yourself from creating a mess, focus on setting up one contrasting element in the room and no more.
