Elegant Small Fisher Price Doll Pieces: Pattern Recommendations

Dollhouse and the Appropriate Mood

Great designers know that in order to have a good layout and design you need to strive for the appropriate mood. The mood of the room is chosen by the expectations of those that do, or plan to use it. An example is that you would have a kitchen to eat, have conversation, relax, cook etc. A bedroom would have a personal setting to illustrate the mood of that individual and help them feel comfortable. Great dollhouses are no different. To help you get in the mood setting, picture the room and the feelings that emanate from that room, then design colors, furniture, and styles to match that setting. The more you can portray the appropriate move, the more you will convince your friends and family your great skills as a miniaturist.

Sizing to Your Advantage

There are three major sizing elements that you will need to deal with in interior layout with a dolls room. The first one is the scale of the furniture, second is the size of the room, and third is the relative size of the furniture as it compares to other pieces of furniture. First is the scale of furniture, make sure that your furniture is the right scale for your dollhouse. Meaning, you should check your dollhouse scale, if it is quarter inch you need quarter inch furniture. The second size element, sizing up the room, means that you are not getting furniture that will not fit in the room. Make sure that you measure your furniture room and are aware of the dimensions of the furniture that you buy. Lastly, the final point is the size of the furniture as it compares to other pieces around it. This means that each set has its own symmetry of size, larger, medium, and smaller pieces should coordinate together in a pattern that makes sense.

Look Down: The Floor in your Kit

It is the small things that once changed make the biggest difference, and in this case flooring is a great small change for a big difference. Undoubtedly Flooring is the foundation of your dollhouse, and as such is the foundation for all of your design choices. Just as with new flooring in any house, new flooring in a dollhouse will increase the value and appeal. There are several types of flooring that you might want to consider: Carpet, linoleum, tile, stone, and/or hard wood. The most popular choice is carpet, probably because we enjoy carpet so much in our houses. Linoleum and tile are basically the same for your kit in application, they are simply different designs. Adding Stone for your deck, hardwood for your living room will add a fun touch - look around and find the best option!

Putting contrast in your layout

The idea of contrast is to great stark differences between colors, furniture, textures in order to draw attention to the action. Using contrast works well to move your eye to a certain location of the room, or in a predetermined pattern. If you are planning to use color as your primary medium for contrast then refer to a color wheel - the colors opposite from one another will bring the most contrast. Using contrast in a room, is like using salt with food, you use to much and you get overwhelmed quickly. The standard is to restrain yourself to one contrast in a room, this way it doesn't get cluttered.
