Email Marketing, Is It Still Worth It?

I do not know if you are like me but I get weary deleting all those emails, from all that email marketing, that fall into my inbox each day. I do understand why some people need to email me two or three times a day, they are desperate and it shows. When we were all subject to snail mail marketing I sometimes could not open my front door for all the waste paper collected on the door mat. Whole forests used to shudder at the thought of a new product launch. The point is I never read them and I do not know how many important letters I threw out with them.

Fortunately email marketing has not had the same effect on my inbox except that my delete finger is getting a permanent strain injury. The trees are now shuddering for different reasons. Do not think that I am a recluse who does not like to hear from anybody. I love getting letters and emails, yes snail mail does still work but that is another story. The thing is that I only want to read both letters and emails if they have something to say to me which is interesting or has some value. I can tell you this does not happen every day. Even the tax office only occasionally sends me mail.

I actually look forward to some emails they are from people that I trust and probably would like if I ever met them in person. They may only send me messages once a week or two but I always open and read them. I know that what they have to say will be relevant to my business and I always investigate any product that they recommend.

Oh yes I can still be a sucker for new products. Like so many others I have a shelf of products and Ebooks that I have never read or used that I bought through an email marketing campaign. I have stopped buying so many now, as when I look on my shelf I usually find that I have it in its original version and that did not work very well. Let’s forget my buying habits and look at how you could get your emails opened by me. That is if you care.

Ok, so how can you get my attention. First and foremost introduce yourself and address me by name. I really do not like being called “mate” or “buddy.” By all means follow up your introductory email but only after a day or so. I get really annoyed by getting three emails a day telling me that the new offer is better than sliced bread. Please do not ramble on I have better things to do than read a long list of advantages to becoming your best friend. If you need to, invite me to your personal web site and not just a squeeze page. Oh yes by the way do not try to keep selling me the latest and best, I have this horrible habit of buying from someone I know so unless it is earth shattering you will be disappointed.

One last point. I am sorry to have to mention this but do make sure that you have an unsubscribe facility. A number of people do not and so I am afraid that they end up in the spam box and will be lost forever.

You may not think so but I love the email and email marketing. If it is done well and not over done it is still a very positive and powerful way of getting your message across. It is a great marketing tool when used with discretion. Email marketing is here to stay and I have no doubt that my inbox will fill up regardless of this article, I just will not read them.
