Emergency Preparedness Can Save Someone
But, do you quit being a survivalist just because everybody thinks your efforts are needless? Of course not. What you can do is to be a good role model, while hoping that nothing ever takes place to demonstrate to everybody that you were right in preparing for a disaster all along. What you must do is to fortify your preparedness plans, and hope that everyone does the same so that you do not have to get stuck in the middle of a panicked, disoriented crowd of people if a disaster happens. Preparedness Tips If we're on the same page on the topic, here are some suggestions on how you can fortify your emergency preparedness strategy for a crisis situation. In any emergency scenario, the basic needs of food, water and shelter must be met. This means packing food that will keep with no refrigeration for a few days, and bringing enough water to supply your needs. This also means preparing for the possibility that you may have to forage for food and water, and construct your own shelter. Sharing. As much as we want to survive a catastrophe, we cannot deny that someone else's welfare may turn out to be our problem during an emergency. Then, my advice would be to bring an adequate amount of provisions for sharing, but not too much that you get hampered from your top priority, which is saving your loved ones and yourself from harm's way. Your worst enemies in a crisis is your environment and stressful emotions. Being geared up will give you an edge when it comes to remaining unaffected and secure in the knowledge that you have the means to survive when the crisis gets any worse. But you can do little to manipulate the surroundings. All you can do is cope, and do what you have to do to live on for the next few hours or days. Keeping the Mentality As a survivalism oriented citizen you may have already learned that even among the few million conservative members of the public you are in the minority. Moreover, you are most likely considered an outcast or a "strange" person. Imagine all the raised eyebrows in the PTA gathering when word gets out that you have been teaching survivalist principles to your little ones. The prevalent mentality of a community is that someone else is in charge of their survival. It could be the government or a higher spiritual force that takes care of their needs. As a disaster management enthusiast myself, I understand what it feels to be considered a misfit during a period of calm, and a hero during a crisis. It is like being a square peg in a sea of rounded ones. But you must understand that survival is a personal choice and that the masses cannot be educated into survival. They ought to develop the same realization so that they can make their own choices.
