Emily’s Song
Heartwarming and deeply exciting, Emily’s Song had its world premier at the Husdon Theater in Los Angeles this winter. The latest from New York Times successful author, Chet Holmes, it collected excellent approval at every performance. There was no doubt that this moving play appealed to LA theater goers, but the reviews are now in and most pundits distinctly concured with the crowd that Emily’s Song was a fantastic success and an expected addition to Los Angeles’ customarily brilliant theater scene. One specialist declared Emily’s Song is actually a “rock opera for the millennia" (read full review at - http://www.entertainmenttoday.net/theater-review/1095-emilys-song-at-hudson-backstage-theatre.html). At the same time, The Star Scoop recapitulates Emily's Song: "The tagline is: “an epic musical journey straight to your heart”. It really is. It's a big story. You can expect to laugh, expect to cheer and expect to cry... people were really, really raving". Feedback on this delightful show also made the online social networking sites, moments following the world premier's end. Peter Guber, from Mandalay Entertainment, tweeted just after Emily's Song ended: "Emily's Song is a movie waiting to happen and Chet Holmes will make it so". On the same social network, Tony Robbins, a viewer, posts a heartfelt message: "I attended a magnificent play called Emily's Song in LA. It's a must see - the story of a father & daughter that made everyone cry". Splash Magazine considered: “Director Chet Holmes has assembled a fine company of actors to tell this bittersweet story of love, loss and the sustaining power of music". But Lindsey Haun, the actor behind Emily Everson, scored a variety of gratifying critic feedbacks. LA Weekly was so charmed by her performance that perceived her to be "the highlight of the show!". Billboard Magazine comments about Haun: "Hers is a voice that could command any genre. It takes a half-listen to fall in love with her inherent passion and pure, raw talent". However, the Finest testimonial for Haun's talent is given by The Los Angeles Time: "Emily's Songs have heart, delivered with conviction by rocker Lindsey Haun". Haun's version of Emily was also enjoyed by the audience, one theater goer, Donna Dibenedetto, revealing that while "everyone was great... Lindsey took my breath away with her singing". Haun can currently be seen as Hadley Stackhouse on HBO's Trueblood, and will very soon play the main character in the indie feature House of Last Things. Chet Holmes believes that this play "is a massive story. That's what I saw in previews for the first time in front of a live audience. You have an instinct as a writer; you think this is a great story, but what writer doesn't? And every story has some personal elements to it, no matter who you are". Holmes also adds several thoughts about the intention to transform this show into a feature film: "Heck, yes! Now that I've made it as a play, I see every place to polish it as a feature. I thought it would be a great feature, just the way it sat, but now there won't be a false note". Holmes recently passed the script The Strongest Man on Earth which currently has a publishing proposal. He has finished 8 more screenplays, that include The Mercenary, Kings of the Earth, Spartacus 2010 and Above All Else. Relying on the fantastic reception to Emily’s Song, we predict we will see big things from Holmes in the future years. To learn more about Emily’s Song, consult www.entertainmenttoday.net.
