Encouraging Sports

It’s easy to understand why the current economic downturn – popularly known as the ‘credit crunch’ has got so many of us feeling down. This makes it more important than ever that everyone has an occasional break from their worries; some read, some paint, some socialise and some spend their spare time watching or playing sports such as football, rugby or cricket. The thrill of sport is that it can be so engrossing, all the excitement and adrenaline of playing can transfer to those who are viewing, whether from nearby or across the globe on the TV. The majority of people have some awareness of different sports even if they do not follow one in particular. Specific equipment and cricket clothing make the game easy to recognise, even for quite young children. With rising levels of childhood obesity, it is important to encourage a youngster’s interest in sports and exercise. Letting them attend extracurricular sports classes is one way in which you can support their interest.

Children can learn a lot through playing sports, and can benefit in psychological as well as physical ways. Being part of a team, fair play and the concept that winning isn’t everything can all be learned through sports. A good sporting coach will teach in a constructive manner, and help to build confidence, another positive attribute which can be transferred to other areas of life. They should seek to encourage a good attitude, good sporting practice and safety precautions. Any sort of sport will require certain items of clothing, and this will vary within games depending on the position being played. For example, a bats person’s cricket clothing will differ to the clothing worn by a fielder. Shoes are also really important; any sort of protective clothing worn during play should not be over looked. If your child is being taught by someone who does not ensure that proper safety measures are being taken, you should look elsewhere for coaching.

Every parent wants to give their children a good start in life, but some may not be able to afford large amounts of kits and garments such as cricket clothing. If this is the case then schools all offer compulsory physical education lessons until a certain age, and as a parent you can help to encourage good attitude in the school sports syllabus. If you know how to play football or cricket yourself, why not teach the basics yourself? This can even be done through watching matches on the TV. This can also help your relationship with your child, a sort of bonding exercise. An early interest in sports will sometimes gradually bloom into a profession or much loved hobby.

We can all do our bit to be healthier these days.Food manufacturers are under increasing pressure to provide healthier options and label products clearly and rightly so, but responsibility for healthy living also lies with individuals and parents. If adults can set a good example about lifestyle, enjoying exercise and eating the right foods, children will soon enjoy those things to.
