There are lots of great activities going on in Atlanta this fall. Enjoy the weekends checking out various festivals and special events around town. Many of these activities are family friendly. Here are some of the city’s more popular seasonal events.

Celebrate fall by attending the Pumpkin Festival at Stone Mountain Park. This popular family event will run from September 30-October 30. Some new activities are planned for the festival’s 9th year. The kids may participate in the costume contest, march in the Great Pumpkin Puppet Parade, and decorate their own scarecrow. The whole family can team up for the scavenger hunt. New on this year’s agenda, families may want to play Pumpkin Palooza. The Pumpkin Festival is just one of the many activities that can be enjoyed during a day at Stone Mountain Park, and festival admission is included in the Adventure Pass. Tickets are $27 for adults and $21 for ages 3-11. There is a $10 daily parking fee. Stone Mountain Park is located 15 miles east of downtown Atlanta off U.S. Highway 78 East.

The 39th Annual Stone Mountain Scottish Festival & Highland Games is scheduled for October 15-16. This heritage event is held in the Special Events Meadow and is not included with the Adventure Pass. Festival attendees will enjoy the gathering of the clans, highland dancing, bagpipe bands, and the parade of tartans. Watch seven athletic contests including the stone put, caber toss, and sheaf toss at the Scottish games. Adult tickets are $17 on Saturday and $15 on Sunday. Children ages 6-12 are admitted for $5 both days. Attendees must pay the $10 parking fee upon entrance to the park.

Scarecrows liven up the Atlanta Botanical Garden during the month of October. Special fall activities are planned each weekend in October from 10am-4pm. Visitors will see more than 100 scarecrows that have been decorated by area organizations, schools, and businesses. Children will enjoy Goblins in the Garden on October 23. Activities that day will include a Halloween costume parade, fall crafts, and pumpkin decorating. Seasonal activities for adults will include Garden Chef Demos on Saturdays and Sundays and Fest-of-Ale, with seasonal brews and live music on Thursday evenings. The garden is located at 1345 Piedmont Avenue in midtown Atlanta. Admission is $18.95 for adults and $12.95 for ages 3-12.
Atlanta’s premier food festival is the Taste of Atlanta. This year the two day event will take place October 22-23 from 11am-6pm at Tech Square in midtown. Booths will line the streets allowing attendees to sample the cuisine from more than 80 participating restaurants. The $25 general admission will include 10 tasting coupons that can be exchanged for food. Tastes will cost 1-3 coupons each. Additional tasting coupons may be purchased. Kids under age 13 are free with a paying adult, but tasting coupons must be purchased. In addition, an onsite farmers market will offer fresh produce for sale.
