Entrance To Santa Monica Airport Upheld

The standpoint of the Federal Aviation Administration was favored by the court in its verdict passed on 1/21/11. The FAA's position is that the attempt of officials from the City of Santa Monica to prohibit Category C and D personal aircraft violates the terms of the settled agreement handed in by Santa Monica officials upon receiving federal funds for the airport.

Entry to Santa Monica airport is disapproving for private jet rental and charter and the companies that use this facility all across the U.S., and the court's decision helps make certain that this access will be preserved. In 2008, officials of the city of Santa Monica prohibited the entry of Category C and D jets which started a disagreement. The FAA released a declaration arguing such action and it said, “The airport does not have the right to enforce the injunction and rejected it from coming into effect until the FAA could regard the matter further with a decision from the federal appellate court”.

Santa Monica officials plead before the court to dispute the FAA's decision in opposition to the ban in 2009. April 2010 denoted an ensuing mandate to the court and the FAA replied in early June. In a position that supports the FAA, the NBAA with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association also plead and stated that Category C and D jets can be run safely at SMO.
