Ethernet Network Hub Switch

A concentrator, perhaps better known as an Ethernet network hub is an essential device for connecting computers in a network. As well as being able to share files and information easily, an Ethernet network hub also allows you to share modem devices and connect to the Internet. The basic setup consists of, a central network host computer from which other computing devices communicate with, and a hub from which all data is transferred through. There will be lights that indicate the status of the connections for the ports.

It is a fact that with a network connection, there is always a possibility data conflicts or other things. Fortunately, Ethernet network hubs can recover from possible data transfer collisions in most cases. What this hub will do next is automatically disconnect the ports where the conflict comes from so that no other computers will be affected. This kind of network connection is much more stable unlike a coaxial Ethernet type that can become unstable and cause a major network problem.

Before setting up an Ethernet network hub, bear in mind the different types of hubs available. The one that transfers data from one port to the rest of the ports in the network is an Ethernet passive hub. Typically you will find this connection in homes and also some small offices. The reason for this is that a passive hub tends to jam data, which then leads to collisions and slower connections.

Unlike passive hubs, active hubs take data packets from ports and reroute them to destination ports which are specified. The advantage of this active hub is that it reduces the risk of data collision to cables that have single connections. These hubs may also come with cache buffers that can store data so that it can easily be recovered in case there are collisions. Far larger and busier networks it's better to choose an active Ethernet hub.

A good and reliable network is mainly down to the Ethernet network hub's capability and features. If you have a small business, you might need an Ethernet hub that has more ports so that there will always be a possibility to add more to the network. Lastly, for extra protection, choose one that integrates a firewall to help safeguard data.
