Ettan Snus – One Of The Best Brands

One of the most known Swedish snus brands, along with General, Skruf and Offroad, the Ettan snus was introduced in 1822 on the market. The one that mastered the recipe of the product making it one of the most long lasting brands in the industry was Jacob Fredrik Ljunglöf. Even up to today this brand represents more than half of the market. Since it is such a demanded brand it comes in both forms: loose and sachets. The Ettan products are: Ettan Portion, Ettan Loose and Ettan White Portion.

Ettan products are made only from tobacco, water, and salt, but they are still very successful on the market. These products do not have any aroma additives and their grinding level is medium. Most probably the rich tobacco taste makes it so popular and the fact that it became a Swedish symbol. The Ettan Portion and Ettan Loose have an unseasoned smell of tobacco; taste a little smoky, but have a full flavor. Both Ettan Portion and Ettan Loose contain approximately 55 % water and about 8 mg/g. Ettan Portion was launched in 1990 and the Ettan White Portion was launched in 2006. The Ettan White Portion is less moist than the original Ettan snus. Like all the other snus brands, Ettan products are an alternative to cigarette smoking or nicotine tables taking. Since research has shown that it is actually the smoke that is more harmful than the nicotine, the tobacco manufacturers tried to increase sales for smokeless tobacco products that have different levels of nicotine.


Since Ettan products are a symbol of the Swedish snus tradition and lots of people, mostly women turned to these oral tobacco products. Apart from the obvious benefit of being able to have a portion or a sachet of tobacco under the upper lip anytime you want too, the laws that ban public smoking are making these oral products more and more popular. Not only that they are a nicotine source, but research shows that there is no connection between different types of cancer and the use of smokeless products. Also the mini portioned sachets are virtually invisible and one can even drink while having a sachet under the upper lip. Thus more and more people, especially women tend to turn to these products because of health reasons. Snus is less harmful to the organism because of the way it is produced and because it has less nitrosamines and more additives that are also consumed in foods.

A fairly important reasons people state when using snus is that they are being considerate to other people too. Everybody knows the smoke from a cigarette affects the passive smoker sometimes even more than the active smoker. The smokeless tobacco is a god way of quitting smoking and also a way of showing others you respect them. In the beginning this kind of tobacco product was mostly intended for the working class, especially the farmers. The reasoning behind it was that they had to have their hands free and they needed a good tobacco product that they could afford. However over time this product became so popular that the people, who use Ettan snus as well as other brands are well educated, have good jobs and a good social standing.
