Eureka Apex 2xt Adventure Two-person Tent Review
Eureka tents have been a part of several historic expeditions, including the American Woman's Himalayan Expedition to Annapurna I in 1978, and the first Mt. Everest ascents by a Canadian and American woman in 1986 and 1988. More recently, tents specially designed and donated by Eureka sheltered Eric Simonson and his team on two historic research expeditions to Mount Everest, but this time they were on a quest to find out the truth about the 1924 attempted summit of early English explorers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine. The Eureka Apex 2XT Adventure Two-Person Tent is a lightweight tent with wall fabrics made from 1.9 ounce 70D Polyester taffeta 800mm coating. It features original Apex styling with 2 mesh doors and 2 full coverage vestibules. The Eureka Apex 2XT easily protects from heavy rains to keep you dry, and is easy to set up and take down. It takes only a few minutes to set up. Assemble the two poles, and insert one end of each pole into a pocket in the corner of the tent. Next, insert a pin from the opposite corner into the other end of the pole, then fasten the center point of the tent to the two poles. All that's left is to attach the clips on the edges of the tent to the poles and that is it. Next drape the fly over the top and secure it with the clips that are on the lower corners. Additional velcro helps secure it to the poles. The last thing to do is stake out the vestibule. The tent has been stated from multiple reviewers as being roomy if using standard sleeping bags, especially for a two person tent. If you intend on using an inflatable twin size air mattress, it will probably be reduced to a single person tent. So here are the negatives, and this one in particular seems to be more than an just an annoyance. If you are inside, the zipper for the closed vestibule is quite far away. This causes one to have to either squat in the vestibule area or reach out extremely far. If it has rained and the ground is wet, you will get muddy. If you bump the tent with your back while you are trying to reach the zipper, you will get soaked. But to be fair, it is likely that every tent that has an enclosed vestibule will have these same problems. Lastly, at the bottom of the vestibule, you can find a snap in addition to the zipper. When drying this tent out after its been in the rain, you might find yourself not being able to snap it closed. For some reason they didn't use a stainless steel snap, and there is a good chance that it could have rusted a little. Plus the two side tent doors don't have mesh bug-screens. But the vestibule is fully zipped, making it hard for any bugs to find their way in. Apart from these things mentioned, it does seem to go over very well with most people. One reviewer who took their Eureka Apex 2XT on many car camping trips, found that the tent worked great even in the pouring rain in the Cascade Mountains. They mentioned that the rainfly has a nice Polyurethane coating on the underside, as well as a factory (Durable Water Repellent) treatment on the outside surface that beads water well. Many reviewers have mentioned using this tent in extremely rainy conditions while camping, and have been very pleased with the tent keeping them totally dry. This tent is excellently made from very durable materials, and the setup is basically a breeze. A single person will probably be able to put this tent up in under ten minutes. If you are looking for a compact, lightweight, and weather-resistant tent, you will not go wrong with the Eureka Apex 2XT Adventure Two-Person Tent.
