ACCME or the Accrediting Commission of Continuing Medical Education is an accreditation body that identifies, develops, and promotes the standards to attain quality CME. CME is used by physicians to maintain and improve their level of competence. It is also used to acquire new knowledge and skills so that doctors can continue to provide patients and their community, high quality of care.

If it is your first time to apply for accreditation, the accreditation process usually takes 12 to 18 months. If you are considering submitting an application for initial accreditation for ACCME, there are some facts that you need to consider to determine whether or not ACCME accreditation is right for you; they are the following:

• CME accreditation is part and parcel of the professional development of physicians. ACCME accreditation is mark of quality CME in the eyes of medical professionals and institutions. If you have that mark, you will be regarded as a reliable CME provider; giving nothing but the best quality education. Also, an accredited continuing education provider is based purely on valid content and commercial bias.

• Organizations that seek accreditation from CME should expect that you will be asked to provide evidence that you have complied with the requirements for accreditation. That is why before you even apply for accreditation, you must plan, implement, and evaluate several CME activities.

• An applicant must submit requirements and information in English as the ACCME conducts its affairs in English.

• All ACCME applicants are required to pay certain fees to get and maintain ACCME accreditation. Fees change from time to time so it is best to check the ACCME website for the accreditation fee schedule.
