Evolution Of Internet Shopping

A decade ago it would have been unthinkable that we, the consumer could do all our shopping online. Today, from essential groceries to luxury goods like cars, all can be researched and purchased online, most items can be delivered too so there is no need to leave the comfort of our home. The financial crisis of the last couple of years has driven a lot more people online; buyers are looking for bargains more than ever before.

As well as large shopping sites like EBay and large existing stores like John Lewis many small independent shops have turned up too, which is what the high street use to be like years ago. Independent small stores provide much better customer service and have a greater knowledge of the products they sell.

It has become easier for individuals and small companies to set up online shops due to the wide availability of ecommerce website design companies and software. Setting up an online shop is no longer a drawn out process, with a little bit of skill you can setup an online store in days. There are companies out there who can do the setting up for you too, for a small fee of course.

It has become incredibly tough for small stores to survive on the high street now but, I think online stores have helped reinvent the small shop owner and specialist suppliers. You don’t see many specialist soap shops on the high street now but online there are hundreds. Some traditionalist would prefer to have smaller shops back in the high, but it’s just not financially viable now, personally I am happy with them being online.
