For any business or company looking to outsource their Excel needs, before you do, just stop and consider where your work will be outsourced. Making a rash decision from the outset will often result in poor results, as well as an increase in your own time having to either sort out the work that comes back to you, or sourcing another Excel consultancy to fix the problem.

Whatever type of excel problem you have, there is always an Excel consultancy to help. However, consider asking yourself the following questions in order to make sure you are one hundred percent sure about using the contractor.

How much do they charge?

If you choose to outsource to a company offering Excel support at incredibly low rates, then be warned. Consultants who do so are often sacrificing the quality of their work, or specific elements of their work. There is usually a reason as to why they are cheap, and this is sometimes because the quality of the work is poor – in which case you’ll end up spending more in time and resources trying to fix the problem.

How long will it take them?

When you outsource your work, will no doubt have a time frame in which it needs to be produced. In some instances, this may be a quick turnaround, but in other cases you may not need the work until a few weeks or months down the line. Whatever time frame you have in mind, be sure that the Excel consultants are able to meet your needs, as this will determine whether or not you should use them.

How involved do they want you to be?

This refers to whether or not the agency or consultant actively engages you, the client, in the decision making process. Whilst some people prefer little contact, others may actually want to review the work at certain stages, so they are aware of what’s going on and to see if anything needs amending. So be sure to ask how responsive they are to clients, this could be a big deciding factor.

Are they recommended?

There’s nothing worse than trying to find a consultant or agency with no real knowledge of the industry or those who work within it. Therefore, be sure to ask colleagues, or other companies that you have connections with, what their experiences are with outsourcing their Excel projects. They may have a list of those who are reputable, and likewise they may know of agencies or consultants to avoid as well. In this sense, it’s also worth building up your own list, for future reference, and if anyone else asks, you can then recommend a decent Excel consultant.

Have you researched them thoroughly?

Finally, always do your research; so if you’ve been recommended an Excel consultant, be sure to check them out online. Seek reviews by searching for them using a search engine and include the word, ‘review’ to establish how reputable they are. The Internet is a fantastic tool, so use it to your advantage.
