Exceptional Guides On How To Care And Train A Parrot

I've constantly loved parrots. An aunt of mine used to have one many years ago, I remember it from my youth, it was very talkative and awesome fun. Since my hubby died I have been quite unsocial. Looking at several photographs the other day, sure enough there was one of me as a small girl next to the parrot in its cage. It brought back cheerful memories, so I decided to buy one.

I'm the first to confess I didn't really know how to look after a parrot. My aunt always used to say plenty of time and constancy was required. But me, calmness? I checked out the local library and found an exceptional book on parrots. I knew a bird would make an excellent pet if looked after relevantly and in return it would supply me with friendship and enjoyment, just the tonic I needed.

The library book was splendid, packed with information. It advised obtaining a big enough cage to allow the parrot to move around pleasantly, to spread its wings. The base of the cage would need to be lined with paper, changed and cleaned daily to stop food and bird mess falling onto the floor. This wouldn't be an issue, I always have the hoover on standby. The book suggested acquiring toys to keep the bird amused, a perch, food and a water bowl.

The parrot would have to be sponged at least once a week with water and dried with a towel. Its nails needed to be clipped to stop them from growing too long. A parrot requires a balanced diet, fruit, vegetables, meat and grains are preferable, along with having fresh water every day.

The penny dropped, keeping a pet parrot would be hard work. This didn't put me off purchasing one though, especially when I found out I needed to talk to it every day. Seemingly vocal companionship is enormously vital, that was ok with me as sometimes I never shut up.

The following day I visited the pet shop. Had a chat to the shop attendant, he had just what I was looking for, a regal green and yellow Macaw, I was enthusiastic. He offered marvelous advice too, like not cleaning out the cage with harmful chemicals, simply warm water. I bought lock stock and barrel for a fabulous price, the parrot, cage and supplies.

I couldn't ask for a more desirable buddy than Dolly, my pet parrot. An interactive bond formed really quickly, I would merely be lost without her now. The internet too, has wonderful tips and advice all about parrots. How to train them, discipline them to talk and keep them settled can all be read about online, enormously positive.

I must say specialist websites on parrots are absolutely terrific, even for oldies like me. The house is now alive with chatter and laughter. Invest in a parrot yourself, they make brilliant friends.
