You are then assigned to a professor who starts you off as a teaching assistant. If you have a bachelor’s degree in biology then most likely, you will be teaching a discussion or lab class for biology 101. When you have more experience in teaching, you are given more authority and may just find yourself teaching the entire course. A teaching fellowship gives you an idea of to build a curriculum and carry through with it. You get experience interacting with students. You also get experience in grading and dealing with the administrative end of teaching.

A teaching fellowship can also help you to build your CV, or curriculum vitae. This is basically your teaching resume. Like any resume, the better it is the better chance you have at getting the job that you want. The experience that you receive in a teaching fellowship is very valuable. It is important for future employers to know exactly what your specialties are. If you want a job in teaching kindergarteners, then you will want a lot of experience in teaching children. It would not do to have only taught college students. It is also useful in letting a future employer know what types of experience you have in teaching. If your classes were mostly lectures then they will know that you have little experience with class discussion.

A teaching fellow ship also opens many doors. People are often impressed with teaching fellowship students. They are not just teachers, but also community builders. They are often involved in community projects that are enriching and exciting. Through these projects you can make many connections. People pay attention to what happens in their communities. If a person while doing their teaching fellowship was to bring in a famous speaker, then the community will be impressed. Having that on your resume is very impressive as well. Also, it lets you meet the influential people of your community. Bringing in a speaker will attract the attention of school administrators. You may even meet your future employer through one of these community-building activities that you plan for your students.
