Exploring The Symptoms Of Sinus Infection

Did you ever trust a school nurse before? I did when she diagnosed my symptoms as a cold. During those days, nobody really doubted a school nurse. Her advice was highly trusted amongst the students. I could still remember how stuffy my nose was. If it wasn't stuffy, it was draining.

At the age of 10, I was still having the same symptoms and I didn't believe what the nurse had told me. "What is going on here? How could a cold actually last this long?" So I decided to drop by the nurses office (it was a different nurse). She diagnosed my symptoms as allergies.

So I went home and asked my parents about getting allergy medicine. My mom never used it before, although sinus problems were quite hereditary. My parents went to the supermarket and bought the drowsy kind. So when I was in class one day, the teacher talked to me one-on-one and asked me if she could talk to my parents. She actually thought I was taking some illegal drugs. That was when I was 10 years old.

My symptoms of sinus infections escalated from that point forward. There are two types of infections that you can have. This problem is also referred to as sinusitis. Acute and chronic are the 2 types.

Here are the symptoms:

Acute Sinusitis Symptoms

* Mucus drainage down the back of the throat
* Fever is common
* Facial pain or soreness
* Pressure around the sinus cavities
* Nasal discharge
* Vision problems
* Headaches
* Nasal congestion
* Pain behind the eyes

Chronic Sinus Infection Symptoms

* Prolonged headaches
* Chronic sore throat
* Pain below the eyes
* Pressure across or above your nasal passages
* Bad breath
* Prolonged facial pain
* Toothaches
* Chronic nasal discharge

When Will These Sinus Infection Problems End?

You can see many similarities between the two. However, what is dissimilar is amount of time that the symptoms will last. Acute sinus infections can last for several weeks. You can have chronic symptoms off and on throughout the year.

Can I Reduce My Symptoms of Sinus Infection?

It might be the case that over-the-counter medications or herbal remedies can assist you. Please consult with a medical professional if you feel that your symptoms are severe. You owe it to yourself to be healthy and make the right decisions.
