Facts About Homeschooling

Homeschooling also known as home learning or home education is teaching children at home either by parents, tutors rather than education in a formal setting of a public or a private school. The children can learn as much as a those who enters the traditional school environment.


There are a few factors why some parents wants to have their child home schooled. Some of them can be teachers' abuse, moral issues, long bus rides, high tuition fee cost, financial constraints, or they just do not like the idea of putting their child to traditional school because of their previous experiences when they were studying.

Deciding whether to engage your child in a homeschool setting can be a very tough decision. It needs a lot of thinking and consideration to that you need to think about it over and over before you come into a final decision.

First of all, homeschooling requires time commitment. It will basically take most of your time in a day sitting with books and your child. Just like traditional school, there are requirements to be accomplished such as projects and experiments, lesson plans, grading papers, educational trips, music lessons, physical education and many more. It can be very tiring but when given the right amount of time can be very beneficial to your child.

When deciding to have your child home schooled, both of you as parents should agree with it or else it will be very difficult. Try to decide carefully considering all the options. When both of you has agreed to the decision, ask your child. If he is willing, then learning will easily take place.

Personal sacrifice is needed since you will no longer own your time. You as a parent will only have a little amount of time alone. Even though practically, a parent and a child relationship is 24/7, it is still essential to set aside some time for yourself or else you will be putting yourself into a stress.

Homeschooling is not expensive unlike traditional schooling. But as a parent, you cannot hold a job outside of your home. This means that you will need to make more sacrifices in giving most of your time to your child if you want to give the best learning experience.

When your child learns at home, it does not mean that he can no longer interact with the world outside. You have to let your child interact with other children as well. This is an advantage since you are able to monitor which child should be friends with yours. There is what they call homeschool coop classes wherein you and other homeschool parents can conduct classes among your children to increase socialization skills.

Once you have started homeschooling, you have no time to relax as much as you want. At this point, you have to learn how to be organized. You have to accept the fact that you will not be able to maintain a clean house all the time. Mess and clutter will be a part of your everyday life but it can be lessened if you stick to your time schedules.

Teaching subjects that even you cannot fully understand should not intimidate you as the parent-teacher. There are materials and lessons prepared to guide you to teach the subject. If you really find it difficult to teach the subject, then you can hire a tutor which can be very expensive if you want the best. Another option is, seek help from others who can teach you how to teach the subject.

In homeschooling, it is not a lifetime commitment. Take it one year at a time and see how it goes. When you and your spouse is ready to have your child go back to traditional schooling, then it is time.
