Faith The Missing Crucial Ingredient For Successful Goal Setting
If you're concerned I'm going to preach to you on the virtues of having a personal faith and belief in yourself or God Himself as a prerequisite for successful goal setting in your life.. guess what-you're partially correct.
Don't worry this article is not a theological op ed piece lamenting on the benefits of why you need God in your life-this is not what this article is about. I am not a Theologian, or a biblical scholar.
However, as a Christian believer who tries to live his faith the best I can, I firmly believe-based upon my own professional experience in providing strategic planning and goal setting for private industry and individuals for over 10 years-that a key crucial element in personal goal setting in general-is the element of faith-either in one's self or in God Himself (whatever one identifies as God) in seeing you to realize your personal goals in life.
I am not going to get in an email debate discussing the definition of God and whos'definition of God do we use. Again-this article is not about the theological definition of God Himself. What I hope to do-is to challenge your current thinking, and your faith in realizing that just penning down on paper one's goals in life is not good enough for your goals to automatically happen. You have to believe it to Achieve it...
If that were true-than every single goal or idea that ever you set out to accomplish in your life, would have come true for you and everyone else in life…and you wouldn't be reading my ezine on faith. For many of you fliers out there, who frequently travel by plane for work or pleasure, do you ever pause momentarily to think maybe the flight will not make it? Maybe the plane will crash or some other unpleasant catastrophic thought floods your mind as you think about getting on that flight…This is a perfectly normal human reaction.
Every one of us (yourself included)…has had those very thoughts. But guess what….you still get on the plane anyway don't you? Why do you get on the plane when you realize that there are really only two potential outcomes if you get on the plane: You crash or…You don't crash)...End of story…
Even if you don't readily admit it-your faith and belief is stronger than the chances of your actually dying in a fiery plane crash. You get on the plane and eventually land at your intended destination all relaxed and ready to conquer the day! You made it to hopefully survive yet another plane flight (Your return flight back home)…
Why you Need Faith in Goal Setting
In the above example, you clearly realize whether you are willing to admit it or not-that your life hangs in the balance in God's hands. You're in a plane 30,000 feet in the air and anything could happen at virtually any moment in that plane and you have absolutely no control over. You are really at the mercy of God Himself for your physical well being.
Why then should you treat your goal setting any differently, or your regular every day activities for that matter? After all, if God is in control of your life at 30,000 feet in the air, do you not think the same God is aware and in control of your life here on earth as you go about your daily routine and goal planning /setting aspirations?
My challenge for you is to not just pen down your goals hoping that they will happen, but to empower you to have the faith to believe in yourself and in God to see that you do actually realize the goals that you've set out to accomplish for yourself.
Remember: "The only Unfulfilled Goals in Your Life are the Ones you Never Attempt"
