Fall Fun In Spartanburg
Nivens Apple Farm in nearby Moore, South Carolina has a variety of activities for families to enjoy. Apple season is here, and Nivens Apple Farm les you pick your own apples or select what you want from their farm store. They grow many popular varieties of apples including Granny Smith, Gala, Rome, Jonagold, and Red and Yellow Delicious. Then move on over to their Pumpkin Patch to select the perfect Halloween pumpkin. Hayrides that wind through the orchard and down the Storybook Character Trail are fun for the whole family. Clues will keep you on the right path as you negotiate the five acre corn maze. The corn maze is open through Thanksgiving. Children will enjoy visiting the resident farm animals. There are pigs, goats, chickens, a calf, and a donkey. There is also a playground and an outdoor gem mine. The farm store sells food products and seasonal décor. Nivens Apple Farm is located at 130 Orchard Road, off Highway 290. Hours are Monday-Saturday from 8am-5pm and Sunday from 1-5pm. Another local farm that is open for the fall season is Hughey Farm in nearby Boiling Springs. Hughey Farm is a working farm that has been in the same family for four generations. Their Pumpkin Patch sells pumpkins of all sizes. They also sell fall produce including green beans, okra, and greens. Hayrides and a corn maze round out the fun. The Hughey Farm Produce Store is located at 9295 Asheville Highway. The corn maze, pumpkin patch, and hayrides are located at 389 Buck Seay Road. The farm is open Monday and Tuesday from 9am-5pm, and Wednesday-Saturday from 9am-7pm. Admission to the corn maze is $5 for adults, $1 for adults with kids, $3 for ages 4-12, and $1 for ages 3 and under. Beware the Wompus Monster that lurks at the Wompus Woods Haunted Trail, one of the longest and scariest haunted walks in the Southeast. While a bit intense for the younger crowd, the Haunted Trail is popular with ages 11 and up. The trail is open October 14-16, 21-23, and 26-31. Sunday through Thursday hours are dusk to 11pm. Friday and Saturday hours are dusk to 2am. Tickets for ages 11 and older are $15 for the Haunted Trail or the Family Hayride. Combination tickets for both are $25.
