Fascinating Shark Facts

I don't know anyone who isn't fascinated by sharks. They appear in books, films, cartoons and documentaries all over the world and yet we still know little about them, just that they like eating!

Brave people go in shark cages and film them for us or we can go to the aquariums and watch them swimming around. I especially love the aquariums that have those great walk through tunnels and they swim around you. Did you know that the shark tank in the Dubai Shopping Mall sprang a leak? They had to evacuate the Mall pretty quickly, but they repaired it safely and the sharks are still inside!

Anyway, I have a few interesting facts for you about sharks that you can impress your friends with.

Sharks can sense a drop of blood from a distance of 2 ½ miles away.
A shark can detect one part of blood to 100 million parts of water!
The Mega Mouth shark was not discovered until 1976. It has a mouth 3ft wide with a body of 16ft long. They are so rare that only 14 have ever been seen.
The first recorded account of a shark attack was found in Herodutus (484 – 425 BC). Sharks attacked the shipwrecked sailors of the Persian fleet.
Sharks cannot eat the Moses Sole fish as it is really clever and releases a chemical into the sharks mouth that makes the shark quickly release it. Wonder if they could develop into a spray for swimmers!
Some sharks can generate about 6 ½ tons of biting force per square inch. Ouch!
The Dogfish shark got their name as they attack their prey just the same as a pack of dogs go after their prey.
A Whale shark is well known to lay very large eggs, and the record goes to a Whale shark egg found in the Gulf of Mexico in 1953 measuring 14'' long!
Swell sharks get their name because they swallow lots of water and then swell up to make themselves much larger to their hunter. (I know a few humans that use the same plan)

Well, I bet you didn't know all this information, did you? Now you are thinking, "I want a shark!" Well, how about having your own shark living in your home? It's really possible! But, this one is really well trained and once you have filled him with Helium, you take out your remote control and he obeys your every command, and doesn't eat anyone at all. Now you have your own remote control flying shark...have fun!
