Favorite Different Types For Masquerade Masks

People know that masquerade is used to define someone who is trying to hide their identity or be secretive. The masquerade masks date back to the twelfth century. It was used in the Venetian carnival to hide a persons identity. Much of the time wealthy socials would have had consequences for socializing with commoners but while wearing this mask they had much more freedom.

During the Italian Renaissance they were used for balls, parties and celebrations. These celebrations were very elegant and luxurious. The people of the high society held these gatherings. While wearing the mask a person could not be recognized so they were free to talk with people that were not inside their social circle.

The police did not like this and many of the wealthy people were against wearing these because they did not like the fact that different social classes were mingling together. Also, people wearing the masks could have affairs or make many financial transactions because no one would know or suspect what was happening and whom it was between.

The main types of these masks include the stick mask, the head, the full face and the half face. Men and women alike wore these designs and also made the theme of what they wanted to resemble or to turn into. There were so many designs to choose from and as the masks got popular so did the quality of the art work put into them.

The stick design was used for a more informal party or celebration. It was a mask that was held up to the face on the end of a stick. It could be removed quickly yet still had to be held with the hand the whole time. Once the mask was removed the person could eat and drink better.

The full face design covered the entire face. It has two holes cut out for the eyes and sometimes a hole was cut out for the mouth. Identity of the person was a complete mystery with this type. The ones without the mouth hole were not practical, the persons voice was muffled and they could not eat or drink without removing the entire mask.

The head mask looked similar to a helmet. It was put on the head and worn as a single piece. This style looked more elegant because hair accessories could be used to complete the look. This type was also impractical because eating and drinking was very difficult.

The stick design was informal and was used more for the occasion instead of trying to hide the persons identity. The person wearing this design had to hold the mask up to their face as the mask was on a stick. It could be removed quickly but required a hand to hold it up to the face the whole time.

This fun act of hidden identity was popular long ago and has returned to modern times and is just as popular. Today, these masquerade masks can be purchased at any type of store or online. Most of these are inexpensive and more modern looking. The mask itself stand for mystery and most everyone likes a good mystery.
