Feuds Build An Audience For An Infamous Underground Hip-hop Group
Underneath the cartoonish horror content of a lot of Insane Clown Posse's distinct brand of underground hip-hop are messages of acceptance, and even salvation. Still, that doesn't mean the group is soft by any means. Throughout the duo's long career in underground hip-hop, the guys have always stood up for their own opinions, even if that's landed them on the wrong side of some feuds. The infamous Eminem feud, anyone? That's just one of a few major Insane Clown Posse feuds. Here's a recap. Eminem Feud: The Eminem feud is probably Insane Clown Posse's most famous, and the longest-lasting. The beginning of the Eminem feud began in the late '90s, when Eminem was a then-unknown local rapper. Eminem was hosting his own underground hip hop show, falsely advertising that Insane Clown Posse would "maybe" appear. However, Insane Clown Posse knew nothing about it, and when they found out, the Eminem feud officially began. The guys of ICP were upset they hadn't been asked first, and Eminem took their refusal personally, making it a quest to continue the Eminem feud. He continued to insult ICP in interviews over the years. In 1999, Insane Clown Posse came back with its own barb in the Eminem feud, a parody of Eminem's "My Name Is" reworked as "Slim Anus." This back-and-forth continued for years until 2005, when the Eminem feud was officially put to bed on agreement between ICP's Psychopathic Records and Eminem's underground hip-hop group D-12. Insane Clown Posse vs. Nasty Little Man: Concurrent with the ongoing Eminem feud, ICP continued to rack up trouble. In an attempt to make a mainstream breakthrough, the group hired the PR company Nasty Little Man in the late '90s. However, the company found out ICP had insulted the Beastie Boys, close personal friends, in a song, and asked them to change the lyrics. ICP refused, and fired the company during a magazine photo shoot. Trouble With Coal Chamber and Sharon Osbourne: ICP usually tours with fellow underground hip-hop groups, but in 1999, they decided to tour with the metal group Coal Chamber. After fans reacted badly, returning tickets, ICP dropped the group and continued with other underground hip-hop acts. When they revealed the reason why, they started a feud with both the band and its manager, Sharon Osbourne. Osbourne declared ICP's career over -- a prediction that clearly didn't come true!
