Everyone wants to fire their boss. The boss is often seen as a slave driver who overworks people and tries to take them away from their free time. This assumption is hardly fair. A boss is often working under other people who he feels the same way about. An employee will almost never publicly voice this to his employer, but it is true.

People seek a home income for greater freedom. They may also try to build a home income in order to stay with children or improve a family's financial situation. The one thing that occurs with almost all of these opportunities is the potential for fraud.

A person who decides to work from his own house should not let the propensity for fraud dissuade him. There are many legitimate companies that would be happy to help a person build a side business. Many of these companies do engage in multi-level marketing. What they should not do, regardless of what they sell, is ask for a large investment up front. When looking for opportunities, it is a good idea to check to see what the company is promising. There are several signs that tell a person he should not spend any money and look elsewhere for a side source of income.

The most obvious sign of a scam is promises of quick wealth. No "get rich quick" schemes work the way the people who promote them say they will. Usually, the people promoting such a method are trying their own get rich quick scheme. They hope that people will fall for their scam and buy their products. They may not even offer a legitimate chance of income.

Another sign is a large amount of upfront money. It is not uncommon for Avon, Scentsy and even Cutco to expect a vendor to buy a few products up front. These products are less than the market price he would pay for such goods in the marketplace.

If the site cannot tell you flat out what its terms and conditions are, you should look elsewhere. It's okay to walk away when seeking a good way to make a home income. You should treat it as seriously as you would treat any other business venture. If the person cannot deal honestly and cannot give you a fair deal, you can rest assured that the products the company sells, if you receive them, will reflect this. Even today there are people who care more about making money than they do about pleasing their customers. You want to find a company that values its employees and its customers.
