Finding Preschools In New York City There's And Art To It

Have you ever thought to yourself that there must be a way for your youngster to get a start on their education, without all of the hassles connected with trying to teach kids in their preschool years? If you have, and you're also interested in finding preschools in New York City that will teach them much about cooperation, interaction, and Jewish values; then there's a place that will really interest you.

Back in 2000, a basement in the East Village saw the birth of a new preschool that wanted to use Reggio techniques to give the children of the community a solid grounding when it came to their academic studies. They also wanted to help in the development of the children's emotional, and social skills, but their aim was to do it in a, somewhat, less than traditional way; and the Preschool of the Arts was born.

Unlike other Manhattan preschools, this school, in Chelsea, envisaged the children using art and creativity as a way to understand subjects, and to learn to work as a group with both their peers and their teachers; and it's an 'experiment' that seems to be working.

The children are learning about things that they're interested in, and, when that's done in conjunction with bright and stimulating colors, artwork, and environment, it seems to help them to get a better grasp of what they're being taught. Whether it's cooking, art, Judaic studies, or even math, science, and social studies, the comprehensive and integrated format is proving to be a winner for parents and children, alike.
In fact, many parents go along to the school on a regular basis to help out; and they're extremely welcome to do so.

While using art to help in education may seem like an odd thing, with very few preschools in New York City using art as anything other than a distraction from the more 'intellectual' subjects being taught, it's the belief of the Preschool of the Arts that art can be used in helping teach children.

There is a natural artist in all children, and it's something that they enjoy doing. Letting them be creative can help to boost their self-esteem, and there are a number of non art related skills that they develop while being creative.

It has long been known that children react better to positive stimulation, and children are stimulated a great deal by color, so taking part in activities where they can be creative, as well as getting a bit messy with paints, helps to stimulate them further. If you add in the fact that they're being taught while doing it, you can see how they'll be far more open to retaining what they've been taught because of their heightened awareness at the time.

Not only do the children get to 'play' with art, there are also gym, a garden, music, and cooking facilities, so it's a good chance for them to keep fit and healthy through exercise such as yoga, and a way of learning how to bake doughnuts for Chanukah, honey cake for Rosh Hashanah, matzah for Passover, and hamantashen for Purim; though, to be fair, they may actually spend most of their time watching how they are prepared, rather than doing it for themselves.

From time to time there are gatherings in the hall where parents can come and watch sporting events, take part in meals, or get involved in some of the many other events held in the hall.

So, if you want to send your child to one of the top Manhattan preschools, and realise that, in their early years, children's minds are 'elastic' and there are so many more ways open to them learning, and working together, learning about respect, friendship, tolerance, compassion, and communal responsibility, then you really could set your child up for life by clicking over to: http://www.nycpreschool.org/, to see what they have to offer you and your child.
