Finding The Correct Loft For Your Golf Driver

Have you experienced going to the rough after hitting a hard tee shot using your golf driver? I think most of us have experienced this one way or another. Playing your next shot in the rough is a lot difficult than Playing it in the fairway. It is also harder to hit your second shot using a long iron than maybe a 9 or pitching wedge to the green.

If you really want to improve your game then you need a driver with the right loft. Without the correct loft your shot won't be as accurate, nor will you be able to drive the ball as far as you would if the loft was correct. The problem is that the people who manufacture golf clubs fail to give the driver the kind of loft that most golfers need. You need optimal loft and in order to get that you have to have some idea of the range of lofts that are available.

For a golfer with an average swing speed, 12 to 13 degrees is just about right to have an ideal ball trajectory and carry. Having a low loft and average to low swing speed will make the ball fly lower and you'll not get the maximum carry. It can also affect the accuracy of your tee shot. Of course, loft is not the only characteristic of a driver that can affect your shot. You also have the shaft, flex of the shaft, etc.

Most of us focus on getting the most distance on our golf driver. We often think that by having a loft of 8 degrees just like the pros will help us in having a drive that is more than 300 yards. We often forget that the long drive champs and touring pros have a faster swing speed than what we have. Instead, we should find an optimal loft that will make the ball fly with our swing speed. An optimal loft will provide optimal launch angle an ball flight which will carry the ball farther than a lower loft.
