Finding The Right Electrical Contractor
First thing you need to do is decide what kind of electrician you need. There are many contractors that are better qualified in certain areas, or ones that have a very good general knowledge. Some electricians deal with new construction only, where there is little or no obstruction while they work. They may charge extra to have to come in and remove drywall in order to address a problem. One important thing to note, make sure that if you are installing any kind of solar, wind, or other alternative power source, you get an electrician that is qualified and specialized in alternative electrical power. While it may seem a little more expensive, you will get someone in that will do the job right the first time. Next thing that really matters is budget. A qualified electrician will do the job right the first time. You should check around for the best prices, but you should also not penny pinch in this area. It is important that you keep safety in mind at all times, and make sure that you get a licensed building inspector to come in after the work is done, but before you finish paying your contractor. Start your search in the online yellow pages. The online version will have the biggest local database, with links to companies websites that contain more information about services they offer. A quality electrical contractor should be licensed, bonded, and well insured, and have a list of education and experience. They should be very well versed in the kind of specific job you're looking for. You need to check all references they provide, and it would be a good idea to check with the Better Business Borough to see what kind of reputation they have. If you don't find any problems, or see what you like, call and get an appointment for them to come out and do an estimate. Make sure you are concise about your needs, what your budget is and make sure they answer any and all questions you have. A quality contractor will give you a detailed general estimate free, and let you know if you can expect any extra charges. Once you have found the one you like the most, call them back and get a more detailed contract worked out, and everything that was talked about should be in your contract. Don't sign anything if there are any discrepancies, or you are in the least unsatisfied. A good contractor will give at least some kind of limited warranty or guarantee on their work. You can find what you are looking for, just take the time to make sure that you pick an electrical contractor you know will do things right the first time.
