Finding A Cycling Club In London
One of the best places to start is on the website www.britishcycling.org.uk which has a club finder page. It covers the whole of the UK and you can search by postcode, region, club type or discipline. There are clubs for every type of cyclist; so whether you are interested in top end competition racing, BMX, off road or just want a recreational club which the whole family can enjoy, then there is sure to be the perfect type of club for you. Once you have narrowed down your choices, pick up the phone and give the club secretary a ring. They will be able to tell you the general level and membership of the club and whether it will be suitable for you to join. It’s important to be honest about your own skill and interest level; there’s no point in joining a club which is mainly composed of those who compete in road racing if you want to be mountain biking! Ask about the average ages of club members. If you are joining as a family then you’ll want to join a club which has other families, otherwise your kids won’t thank you for dragging them off to hang around with a bunch of grown-ups every weekend. Similarly, if you are a serious racer, the last thing you want is to be cycling in a group of recreational cyclists. Most clubs will be more than happy for you to come along for a trial to see if the club is for you. One thing you should consider if you’re going to be cycling regularly is to take out bicycle insurance. The more you use your bike, the more exposed you become to the risk of theft, damage or damage to a third party. Whilst it is not a legal requirement to have bicycle insurance, it’s a wise precaution to take – and gives you peace of mind should the worst happen. After all, your bike can be an expensive purchase, so it makes sense for it to be covered. Joining the world of cycling opens up a whole world of opportunities to you. Not only is it great for your level of fitness, but it gets you out and seeing the scenery from a totally different level. And once you’ve got your bike, it’s free! If you’re reading this then you probably don’t need encouraging to get ‘on yer bike’ – but for those who haven’t yet discovered the benefits, then why not give it a try. You won’t regret it.
