Finding The Perfect Vacation Rental
Tip #1: Define your “perfect rental” and make a list of the amenities you want. Sorting through a large number of properties can be overwhelming so it’s really helpful to begin with your specific desires in mind. Do you prefer an urban or rustic setting? Do you need wifi access? Want a place that allows you to bring your pet along? Of course, you can always fine-tune your requirements later, but starting with goals can help quickly narrow your search. I’ve definitely found some great vacation rentals for last-minute getaways, but in general it’s best to start looking well in advance of your travel, especially during popular travel seasons. Tip #4: Pinpoint the property location on a map. Location descriptions and owner maps can be deceiving. Use Google Maps to calculate driving distances to and from the airport, and to determine how far it is from the rental to any destinations you may plan on visiting. Tip #5: Research the neighborhood. Use the Google Maps’ “Search Nearby” feature to see if there are any restaurants, bars or tourist attractions near the property (or far away from it, if that’s what you’re looking to avoid!). You can also use a site like Yelp to check out area businesses and see what kind of talk has developed about the neighborhood, or to ask locals for their opinion.
