Finding The Right Recruiter

Finding the right recruiter for your organisation is the same with finding another service. If you have been referred to a recruiter by a friend of business colleague this would be well worth checking out. You want to feel like you can trust a particular recruiter and a lot of this is down to gut feeling but there are ways and question which can be asked to determine whether this recruiter is the right one for you.

The internet has hundreds of recruitment agencies and this is the best place to start. If your business is very much specific to one type of industry, say construction, then you will need to search for construction recruitment agencies. The same can be said for any industry. Your best bet is to chose two or three agencies to approach. I would then search for good or bad reviews for the agency. Just type the name of the agency and then review and may find lots of reviews good or bad to help you make a decision.

Ok now you have narrowed your search down to say two or three recruiter’s what’s next? I would prepare a list of questions ready to ask the recruiter. Questions that should be asked are “What would your candidates say about you as a recruiter?” “What are you best and worst attributes?” “Can I speak to a current client of yours for a reference?” If you ask questions the recruiter isn’t expecting you will be catching him or her off guard. This is where you will be able to tell about the recruiter’s basic honesty and authenticity. You can ask as many questions as you like and you will be able to tell by how they answer your questions as to whether they are worth pursuing. Many recruiters will have a set reply for most questions and they will have replied the same for each. But if you ask the right questions which are not on that list of set reply you will be able to get a good instinct as to whether this recruiter is right for you. Putting someone off guard like that will make them behave in a number of ways. This is a great way of determining if they are honest how they react when off guard.

To have a successful recruiter/candidate relationship you will need mutual trust and respect. This can be said of any human relationships. If you’re speaking to a recruiter that has been referred to you, don’t believe all the hype and don’t look at the recruiter through past-tainted glasses. Do some research and trust your instincts. What is right for someone may not be right for you and your business.
