It has happened to me several times. While browsing, as usual, the power goes out, leaving me in front of the dark screen. It usually goes back after two or three minutes, but the real problems begin here. While opening Firefox again, I notice that it has completely lost all my settings and all my bookmarks, practically returning to all its default settings. The first two times this has happened to me I didn't know what to do, and all my saved links were lost. But now, I've found a solution to my problem.
If you ever find yourself in sitiuations that resemble mine, here's what you should do:
1) Close Firefox immediately. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox , open the folder located there (by default there is only one folder there, the default profile), then open the folder called bookmarkbackups. You should see several backups there, represented by .html files which have calendar dates in their name. Copy the latest one to a separate folder.
2) If Firefox does not restore your settings even after you set them again, here's what to do: open Firefox in Safe mode (from the startup menu) and choose "Reset toolbars and bookmarks", then retart Firefox. This should do it.
But you still don't have your bookmarks. So, continue to step 3:
3) Open Firefox, open "Organize Bookmarks" and import the file you've copied at step 1) to your Bookmarks Toolbar Folder.
You should be done. Please note that as soon as you notice that Firefox lost all your bookmarks and won't restore your settings you should begin step 1), before Firefox overwrites the last save, thus deleting all your bookmarks.
