While there is no guarantee that you will not get stretch marks in your pregnancy, there are steps that you can take to prevent them from happening. Step 1 – A Healthy Diet. Because stretch marks are caused by sudden weight gain, maintaining a healthy weight can prevent them from occurring. A healthy diet with lots of fruits, vegetables and healthy fats and oils should help your skin stay healthy and strong. Step 2-- Proper Support. The dermis tears when there is no support holding the skin in place, so in the case of pregnancy there are still options that can be used for prevention. Wearing maternity clothes that support the belly while not being too tight can help with the prevention of stretch marks, by providing a pregnant belly with support to prevent the dermis from tearing. Step 3 – Moisturize. Using lotions and moisturizing creams can also be beneficial, since they can provide elasticity to the skin to make it less likely to tear. Some treatment creams like Trilastin SR from EA Research can also even reverse the scars that may already have occurred. Step 4—Drink Water. By drinking water, you hydrate your skin and make it less prone to tearing and scarring. Dry skin is more likely to damage and scar. Step 5—Relax. Believe it or not, stress in pregnancy has been shown to increase weight gain and stretch marks. So by keeping your stress level low, you will not only be helping your baby, you will be saving your body as well.
