Online video is huge. People love it. And just as important from an online marketing perspective: search engines love it. Is it critical that you incorporate video into your online marketing mix? Maybe not. But in the world of Internet marketing, you've got to give yourself every advantage over your competitors, and that means using video.


Fortunately, using video in your online marketing does not have to be complicated. Follow these five simple rules and you will find yourself shining in no time.

1. Your videos should be short in length. The Web is a medium built for short bursts of information, not documentaries. You have two things going against you with long videos: peoples' impatience with download times, and short attention spans. Keep it short and get to the point.

2. Production quality can be minimal. Your videos do not have to look like a Hollywood production. In fact, it doesn't even have to have actual video footage. How do you make a video without video? Just combine a voiceover or some other kind of soundtrack with still images and save it in an acceptable video format. However, even if the image quality is low, strive for high quality sound. A video with poor imagery but good sound is much more passable than one with poor sound.

3. Tag your videos with the best keywords related to your business, assuming you are doing video distribution for marketing purposes. Look at your videos as any other piece of content being used for the purpose of promoting your web site. It should be optimized for specific keywords.

4. Use multiple video sites. YouTube is the best known such site, but there are lots more. Don't limit yourself to one site just because it happens to have the most users. Stretch out. It is highly advised that you use video distribution software to make this process quicker.

5. Have fun! If it appears that you really had fun making your vides, then that will come through. Avoid being stiff and boring, unless that is what is called for.
