Flatscreen Television Deals And The Spendthrift Market

Makers of most appliances that are closely associated with luxurious living suffered poor sales since the start of the financial crisis. Among the few products in this category that enjoyed sustained growth was the flatscreen television sector, which suffered a dip only during 4th quarter of 2008 but eventually regained lost ground in the first quarter of 2009.

Despite the economic downturn, buyers continued to buy plasma and liquid crystal display television sets by concentrating on value priced models. This buying attitude has allowed inexpensive brands like Vizio and Funai to surge past their premium but over-priced counterparts, Samsung and Sony. The current ranking for flatscreen displays holds Vizio at the top, followed by Samsung, and then by Sony.

While this trend was manifested in the entry-level models, the more expensive 40"-and-larger screen market told a different story. In this bracket, where most of the buyers belong to the financial elite who have unlimited resources to spend, the premium brands ruled.

One brand in particular, although not a market leader, is playing its role to the hilt. Bang and Olufsen, a Danish electronics maker known for its extremely upscale products, is bent on making a killing in its preferred niche. It is prepared to tickle the appetites of its extra-extravagant clientele through a tasty 103-inch plasma TV.

Looks pretty yummy? You may start licking your lips as that is all most of us can ever hope of doing at the sight of this beauty. The price tag? A whopping $111,000. However, this already includes installation and set up as well as a pneumatically-driven stand. The stand raises this expensive flatscreen television to a viewable height when switched on and lowers it down to floor level when the television is turned off.

Flatscreen television is the term used to refer to high-definition TVs, the most popular types of which include plasma TVs and liquid crystal display television sets. A movie viewed through it will appear brighter, more well-defined, be distortion-free, and wide. The experience of watching a movie through a flatscreen television can be likened to watching the same movie over movie houses.
