For The Love Of Food
Keeping everything in balance can prove to be a challenge. We all live in a fast paced world. Everyone is on the go. Very few maintain a set schedule for meals and the preparation involved. It seems to get pushed aside with so many other things that feeding ourselves are done on a whim. That is why we can’t drive more than 15 miles without seeing chains of fast food restaurants. We live in a world of the here and now. Children are being taught that when they are hungry you get in the car and go pick something up. They are not being taught at a young age how to take fresh foods from the refrigerator and create a healthy meal. Everywhere we look within society we see advertisements for food and advertisements for weight loss. The sense of responsibility is lost when we have the illusion that we can eat whatever we want and then take a pill or drink a drink to lose the calories we may have just added. Exercise is so important for us but as with so many other things the time to devote to this seems unavailable. Children don’t play outside like they did 40 years ago. Television, video games, computers, and many other distractions weren’t there. Saturday morning used to be so exciting to wake up and watch cartoons, now there are cartoons available 24/7. When we came home from school we were outside until dinner time and then back out there again until the street lights came on. The hot temperatures, rain, humidity, and cold temperatures never stopped us. It was rare to see a child that was overweight. When I pick my children up from school I am flabbergasted that the children who are thin are now the minority. How absolutely devastating this is. Eating disorders has become a very common subject. Years ago we would hear about it referring more towards teenage girls. Those in the field have seen an increase in adult women with eating disorders. At any given time, more than half of the women in treatment programs are older than 30. This was not the case 10 or 20 years ago. Now a days, society tends to trigger this more than before; the expectation to lose weight quickly after pregnancy, the desire to look young, television, magazines, and weight loss advertisements all around us. We are bombarded every where we look. Anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorders have deep seated emotional issues that seem to tie in with these. Watching a friend deal with the battle of anorexia was very complicated. Her perception of herself and the reasons why she struggled seemed to be like layers of an onion that needed to be peeled away and dealt with. Do you know what it means to feed your body at the cellular level? I’m sure all of us have experienced the feeling of being hungry, eating a meal, to only feel unsatisfied or still hungry. Our cells, the very thing that makes our body what it is are not being fed what they need to do their job for us. If we were to feed our cells than our eating habits would balance, our cravings would balance, our weight would balance, and our emotional state of mind would balance. It sounds so simple but everything ties into each other. Start looking into how this can be done for next to nothing on a daily basis. You will be amazed at the results and how much better you begin to feel. Take charge; look at our website to benefit yourself and your family members.
